Soliloquy Slider Basics-change pictures…

  1. Hi Jan,
I have a question about photos that I put on my website. I know you have to have written permission to use photos of kids. Is the same true for adults? I have long ago lost contact with some of the people in a few of these photos that I want to use…or I never knew their names in the first place. Is it okay if I use the photos? Also, will you please look at my slider? I know I have too many photos. You recommended no more than 5. Would you suggest ones that you think would be better for the slider? Should I put the remaining photos someplace else on the website? Not sure if I know how to do that???? I think I am FINALLY almost through (thanks to your expert guidance). I am still trying to get the paypal to work. I will have to call them. Thanks again for all your help.

    • Hi Jackie,
I answered most of your questions in an email. You can certainly put some images elsewhere on your site. My tutorials on creating pages have some insight about putting pictures on pages. Some of your pictures may need to be resized. They look like they are a big file size. If you need help, pick the ones you want and where you want them…if you can’t get them on the page let me know and I’ll help. Let me know if you need help with PayPal too.

  2. Hi Jan! I use screenpresso for capturing the exact images I want; as well as Irfanview to resize pictures. They have both worked very well for me. Maybe that will be of use to others as well. Thank you!

  3. I went to the training session in Atlanta in April where they were taking pictures of all of us that attended. The pictures were supposed to be available and apparently I glossed over that in my notes. Where can I find them?

    • Greg, corporate will email you when those are in a location where you can download them. It should be soon.

  4. Jan,
I’ve uploaded some new pictures but I can’t get them sized correctly. In the “home slider” page it shows my pics as 640×360. Only a few are not sized correct
Y and I can’t figure out how to change those. I went in to pixlr and changed the image size and re-uploaded the picture but it did not correct the sizing.
    Thanks!

  5. Hi Jan-

So far I’m following along fairly well with most of this (which is great, as I’m technologically challenged 🙂 I have resized my photos using pixlr, but find that my slider is thinner compared to Jim Bob’s page, so my pictures are getting an additional height crop. Am I missing something?

    • Hi, Natalie! I bet you’re doing great! I went into your Homepage slider and under config the settings were set at 940 X 300 (or something like that). I changed them back to 600px X 360px and your slider looks like it’s supposed to now.

Let me know if you need anything else!

    • Diane, I’m so embarrassed. I have totally missed your requests for assistance. I’m usually emailed when a comment is made, but didn’t get yours. I just found your requests in my comment section. So Sorry!!!

Try this on your slider pictures after you add them…click on the blue circle with the i in it that is on each picture, make sure status says Published instead of Draft, scroll down and click Save Metadata, click the X at the top right to close this window, scroll up and click update. See if that works for you and let me know.

I may need to update the tutorial. When updates are done to plugins, and the Soliloquy Slider is a plugin, sometimes things change and look different.

      Thanks for this question!!!!!

  9. Hi Jan,
Thank you so much for these great tutorials! I have a question about inserting slider pics from the library. When I go to the library and search sliders, there are a couple of sliders that I really want to include….the hands for example. However, when I go to soliloquy, that image does not show up in the options. Can you help me to understand how to make that happen? Thanks!

    • Peggy, I’m happy you like the tutorials! You must have figured out the problem you were having…I see the hands picture both on the frontend of your site and in the backend inside Soliloquy. You have quite a few pictures in your slider and it takes a while to rotate through them. I usually recommend no more than 5 pictures there…not sure if I mentioned that in the tutorial. Thanks for the question…let me know if you have any more questions.
