Edit the Home Page Learn More Section…Remove Jim Bob’s name in Blurb 7

  1. I changed the content in the “Which Do YOU Want To Improve First? blurp. When I go to front end to check changes, it looks fine. But when I select learn more it takes me to the classroom management summary. Is there a link to the motivation page?

  3. How do I edit the learn more section of a blurb?

    Reply
      • That is where I started but if I view the page and go to Learn More in blue and then go to all products and want to delete or edit a product or category, not the attributes, how do I do that?

        Reply
        • If I’m understanding correctly you want to edit the products and the categories on the Shop page, correct? If yes, there is a series of tutorials on the Shopping cart. If you go to the main tutorial page (or in the right sidebar of any tutorial page), scroll down until you see the section of tutorials called WooCommerce Shopping Cart. Here’s the link to the main tutorial page: http://ctewebsite.com/blog/tutorials/.

  4. Jan,

In the blurb Visit My Store, the ‘Learn More…” link is disabled. I don’t remember making any changes to it. Can you restore link? Also, blurbs are out of alignment. Please advise how to correct. Thank you!

    • Hi Wendy,
Thanks for these questions…I fixed your link in blurb one. It’s linked to a page called Store. This may help you in the future concerning links: There is a tutorial on making links…if you are in doubt of what the page you are trying to link to is named, go to the page and look at the URL…the name of the page is at the end of the URL.

      Create Link

      Email Links

      http://tttwebsitetutorials.com/blog/email-links

I also worked on your blurbs. Here’s what has to happen for blubs to stay aligned:
      1. The blurbs across from each other need to have the same amount of lines. I added a sentence to your blurb 2 to make it the same as blurb 1. Feel free to change it.
      2. The small thumbnail pictures to the left of each blurb need to be sized at 64 pixels wide…when possible, 64×64. I have resized yours.
      3. Sometimes you can adjust the number of lines by putting the Learn More link on the next line…do this by putting your cursor in front of the Learn More, hold down shift as you hit Enter/Return on your keyboard. This makes a single space line…Enter/Return withhout the shift makes double-spaced line.

I hope this helps…let me know if you need any other assistance…~~Jan

  5. Hi Jan,
I get how to change blurb 7, but how do I change the learn more part of it? I have it written out in a Word document.

    Thanks.

    • Greg, edit the home page, open blurb 7, scroll down until you see the existing text. Paste your new text there, then Save the module and Update the page. The blue words “Learn More” link to your About Me page. Don’t paste over that if you still want to link to your About Me page. If I didn’t answer your question, let me know.

    • Shirl, You need to change the items on the ToDo List I sent out. You’ll want the Request a Quote form to go to you, so I suggest you make sure you’ve done what’s on that list. I’ll email it to you again.

  8. Hello!

How do I hide a blurb? I may use it at some point, but want to remove it at this time.
    Wonderful tutorials!

    Thank you!

    • Hi, Kaytlynn!

You can’t hide a blurb. You can delete it, by clicking the X on the blurb, but can’t hide it. I recommend copying what’s in the blurb and pasting it in a document and save on your computer. That way if you delete the blurb and want to use it later, you can add the blurb and paste in the original content. Of course your page will look best if you have the same amount of blurbs on both sides.

I don’t know which blurb you want to delete, but if it is either the CM or DI blurb…We always suggest you leave both CM and DI on your site. If someone inquires about a training you aren’t certified to do yet, you might have time to become certified…or someone else could do the training and you receive a finders fee…may $1000 or so depending on the size of the training. Of course you would contact your director for guidance on that.

Let me know if you need more help!

  9. Hi Jan. I was able to edit the home page, left side, information. Unfortunately, I managed to get the message in the same font size as the greeting line. My tool bar in that window does not include anything on the second line, such as font style and size. How do I change the font size back to the originally programmed size? Thanks.

  10. Hey Jan,
Thought I had posted this comment but do not see it. So… 2 questions. I have tried to delete blurb 3 since I am NOT CM trained. When I did, it brought up blurb 5 to the 3 position, but it was shifted to the left alot more than the remaining blurbs in positions 1 and 5. Also the blurb on the same line was shifted left. I did not publish this, but did modify the words in each to reflect what I wanted to say. Also I wanted to delete “Which do you want to improve first” since I cannot offer both presentations. Both could be added back later. Can they be hidden or must they be removed?
    Thanks for your help.

    • Regina,
Any pages dealing with CM can be hidden and not removed. However, a blurb has to be removed and then put back when you want it. I always suggest that you copy what is in each blurb and put it in a word document on your computer so you will have it should you need it. Rick always suggests that you leave both DI and CM on your site. If you get inquiries about CM you can either get trained at that time or get someone to do the training and you agree on a finders fee. With that said, it’s your decision.

I would keep the number of blurbs on each side the same, like 3 on the left and 3 on the right. This will look the best. As for the alignment, if you scroll to the bottom of each blurb, in CSS Class, they each should have blurb1, blurb2, blurb3, etc. This is what controls the alignment. The blurbs on the left should be the odd numbers – blurb1, blurb3, blurb5, blurb7. The blurbs on the right should be even numbers – blurb2, blurb4, blurb6, blurb8. It is possible that you may have to change what is in the CSS Class if your blurbs got reordered.

I hope this makes sense. Let me know if it doesn’t. I’ll be glad to help you make it look right. You may have to publish it for me to look at it.

In my comment that did not post, I had mentioned about learning the CM since I could refer them to Jim Bob for a speaker. I had already copied the blurb texts before I edited them. The only other question at this time is about when I click on the “about my services”, 4 lines show…CM, DI, Keynote, and My Blog. I will only be doing DI now. Can the others be removed or hidden for now?? I did correct the link so that when you clicked on DI, that is all you saw was the DI listed.

        • Regina, you can watch the tutorial titled Remove Keynotes. I think this will show you what you are wanting to remove. You could put them back later. The pages will be hidden but the links to them would have to be put back when needed.

  11. Hi Jan,
Thanks to you, I think I’m near the finish line! I have a minor problem and can’t seem to find the tutorial to fix it. While making an edit on the Learn More section Blurb #6 I clicked on the blue learn more link and reversed student-teacher relationships to Teacher-Student and those words are now black rather than blue. Please help.

    • Vicki,
I’m glad you are almost finished customizing your website! Actually, when you clicked on the Learn More link it took you to the page called Classroom Management Overview. When you made the change in the text it deleted the link for those words. Links automatically have the blue color. I edited that page and included those words in the link again. Please check and make sure the words are okay now.

      Great Job!

One question: is it permissible to leave the testimonials “as is” until I may have some of my own to post? Thanks again.

Thanks for this question. Barney has installed a plugin to use for this. Go to Settings > Maintenance Mode. I haven’t had a chance to work with it or make a tutorial on it but you may be able to figure out how to do it. It looks relatively easy to use. Just glancing at it, I think you click on BASIC and enter info and also click on DESIGN and enter your choices there. I think those are the only 2 areas that you have to edit. Save…then view your home page.

Also if you want to search for more information on it, google the name of the plugin…it’s called Minimal Coming Soon and Maintenance Mode.

I would like to hear how you like the plugin. You will be the first to use it!

      • Hi. TY for responding quickly; however, I have 2 problems. I’m not sure which icon to access for the “Settings” link you recommend. And, secondly, can you please help me figure out why my icons on the left-hand side of my admin page have been “scrunched” so that it looks like a narrow list of pictured icons (without the descriptors that used to accompany them.) I need to know how to expand that left-hand column.

        • Jackie,

The menu expands so you can see the words and it collapses so you only see icons. Here is a link to a graphic that shows what to click to expand your menu so that you see the words. It also shows what icon is the settings icon. I would expand the menu. Let me know if you need further assistance…. Click here for the graphic.

  14. Jan,
How do I edit the categories? (I think that is what they are called.) For example, when I go to the Home page and click learn more on my Accolades…it takes me to Testimonials. The first page in Testimonials has CM testimonials and DI…I only need CM, but I am not sure how to get rid of the blue link? I have removed DI from my drop down menu, but the blue link is still there. This also happens on About My Services page…I have removed the Keynote and DI drop down, but the blue link still occurs. Thanks for your help~

Here’s instructions for what you’re trying to do…
      1. While you are logged in, go to the frontend of your site and click on Testimonials.
      2. On the toolbar you will see EDIT PAGE…click on it.
      3. Scroll down until you see the module called Text Module-Links to CM and DI Testimonials and click on the 3 black lines to open the module.
      4. Scroll down until you see the link you want to remove…highlight the words…and then delete them.
      5. Click Save to save the module.
      6. Click Update to make the change permanent to the page.
      7. Go up to the toolbar and click View Page to see your changes.

I changed the link in the main menu and the text that appears when you click on it, but I would like to be able to use a text title similar to the one you have for Jim Bob but that says My Consultations or something to that effect when a person gets to that page.

          • Brenda, I can make extra page banners for those who want more. There will be a small fee for making them, to compensate me for my time.
1-5 banners will be $25. Each additional banner will be $5 each. So…7 banners would be $35.

I would like for you to think through the banners you want for your site and send them to me at one time. I will invoice you from my PayPal account and when you pay I will send you the page banners.

Thanks for asking the question! I’m sure others will want to know the answer as well.

        • I have really enjoyed your tutorials. They have made it easy to edit my website. I have learned so much about what it takes to put something like this together and appreciate all the work you all have done. I could never have done something like this myself.

I am anxious to see the ones for the store. I tried setting up a Paypal business account but wasn’t sure what they meant when I got to some of it. It said something about creating a button versus working with an outside source with the button already there. I just put that on hold until you are able to share that information with us. Thanks, Jan!

          • Brenda, I’m about to post a tutorial on setting up PayPal. I can’t go through the exact steps of setting up because I already have a business account and don’t need to set up another. When you set yours up would you make note of what they ask you to do and let me know. That way I can address it in the tutorial.

You don’t need to set up buttons…we already have the button set up in our Woocommerce shopping cart. You can also set up taxes, shipping, etc in our cart. You have to do that in PayPal.
